Phoenix Shot Tower, Baltimore, Maryland

This composition is looking straight up from the floor of the Phoenix Shot Tower. The tower was used to make lead shot by pouring molten lead through colanders at the top. As the lead dropped through the square openings in each floor it formed a sphere, before landing in a barrel of water in the bottom. Partially visible to the left are stairs to upper floors. The two grooved posts at the bottom of the photo are tracks for an elevator, installed after the tower was built.
